Yesterday I wrote about how D-Day for Windows Phone 7.8 was finally here, and also whether it was all a big joke to get people going on what has been a never ending saga. Well as of 1st Feb, it still has not arrived for T-Mobile UK customers Nokia Lumias. I have checked on the Nokia website and it displays a newer firmware edition to the one on our Lumia 800, but it still does not show as an update in Zune or on the phone. Nokia have since said the update will be spread over three weeks across territories.
Announced on the Nokia blog and via their You Tube channel, Windows Phone 7.8 is officially available from today across Europe and the UK. It is compatible with the all Nokia Lumiamodels including the Lumia 800, Lumia 900, Lumia 710, Lumia 610 and Lumia 510. However as of 2pm today UK time, many people, including myself can see no update available on our Zune software!
UPDATE: As of 4:15pm UK time, still no update. Rumours are it will be after 6pm.
UPDATE 2: 7:30pm, still no 7.8 update. Is it real???
This will change (unless they are joking with us) so here are the steps you need to update to Windows Phone 7.8 and to get the Windows 8 style start screen and more…
1.You have to make sure your Zune software is up to date.
Settings > Software > General > Update.
2. Then attached and sync your phone.
3. Once sync is complete update the phone by going
Settings > Phone > Update
4. Follow on screen instructions.
5. Enjoy customising that start screen once more.
There are also some new Nokia apps to play with although nothing outstanding. The main benefit is the start screen which allows you to use the full screen and see more from the Live Tiles as a result.
Here is the announcement video from Nokia and Microsoft.
