This latest Acer laptop on the market is a real gem on paper. Offering a huge amount of hard drive space and a massive 6GB of RAM combined with a dual core processor and Windows 7 it appears to tick all the right boxes for a great family or student 15 inch laptop. But is all what it seems with the Acer 5742Z?
Where the Acer really scores is with its price. At only £369 (As of, November 2011) it is a huge amount of kit for the money. Especially with the hard drive supply problems and their subsequent increase. As previously mentioned, it has what most people would want, HDMI for HDTV video output, plenty of USBs, and an attractive body matched to good, if not Core i3 fast processor. It also has a HD webcam built in, so it is great for Skype.
The laptop is not built for games, however it should play most less graphically intense games like The Sims, and Facebook games with no problem at all. Where it excels is handling Microsoft Office, most photo editing and web browsing.
The Acer 5752Z is a great branded everyday laptop, which has a good battery and power for a cheap price. Only the lack of an Core i3 processor stops this being given 5 Chomps, although most users will not care as it is a true example of a fit for purpose laptop.
